I'm excited to announce that Jonathan Jones is joining our NFL desk as a senior writer at the beginning of August. Anyone who's paid attention to pro football in recent years will recognize Jonathan as one of the preeminent voices that routinely delivers substantive news to his audience with coverage that's both accessible and moving. If you needed any proof, look no further than his stories about the landscape-shifting trade of defensive player of the year Myles Garrett to the Rams, the Seahawks' Super Bowl journey or his exclusive interview with JJ Tretter amid NFLPA upheaval in 2025.
As a senior writer at The Athletic, Jonathan will focus on bringing behind-the-scenes stories to the forefront, breaking news and capturing game moments with deeply reported articles and video analysis.
Jonathan joined CBS Sports in 2019 and rose to become their lead NFL insider. Over the years, he's covered 11 Super Bowls.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Jonathan started working for newspapers as an intern in 2005. His focus on the NFL began in 2012 when he became the Panthers beat reporter for the Charlotte Observer. He's also worked for Sports Illustrated and HBO's highly rated "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel."
I've long admired Jonathan and am delighted he's bringing his talents to The Athletic, joining us on August 3. I encourage everyone to give him a big welcome as we gear up for an action-packed NFL season ahead.
