Ascension Saint Thomas West Announces $120 Million Campus Transformation to Expand Access to Centers of Excellence and Enhance the Patient Experience

For 51 years, Ascension Saint Thomas West has been the trusted destination for advanced specialty care across Middle Tennessee and the surrounding region. Today, the hospital announced an investment of more than $120 million to modernize its campus, creating an elevated environment that reflects the exceptional care delivered by its physicians and care teams every day.

The multi-year transformation will modernize acute hospital facilities, expand outpatient services, modernize physician office buildings in partnership with Healthcare Realty Trust (NYSE: HR), and improve patient access while introducing health-inspired amenities that create a more welcoming, connected experience for patients, families and visitors.

Expanding Access to Specialized Care

The campus transformation includes significant investments in clinical infrastructure to support the hospital's nationally recognized specialty programs, including:

• Modernized operating rooms, cardiac catheterization laboratories and procedural suites
• Expanded capacity and navigation for Ascension Saint Thomas Heart
• A new Heart and Kidney Transplant Center with a dedicated entrance and enhanced patient care areas
• A new Thoracic Surgery and Chest and Lung Center designed to improve access to pulmonary and thoracic care
• Expanded advanced imaging and diagnostic capabilities
• New medical equipment and sterile processing infrastructure
• Nursing care equipment with integrated technology to improve workflow and patient care.

Creating a Better Experience for Patients and Families

Patients and visitors will experience a campus that is easier to access and navigate through:

• Redesigned hospital and specialty clinic entrances
• Enhanced signage and wayfinding throughout the campus
• Renovated patient rooms, waiting areas, lobbies, corridors and clinical spaces
• Improved parking, landscaping and outdoor gathering areas
• Expanded healthy dining options, a redesigned gift shop and additional health-inspired amenities

When complete, the transformed campus will provide patients and families with a more welcoming, intuitive and connected experience from arrival through recovery, further strengthening Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West's role as a premier destination for advanced specialty care.

Prioritizing Safety and Infrastructure

As the campus grows, safety remains a central focus of the transformation. The project includes enhanced security features throughout the hospital, including expanded interior and exterior camera systems, widespread emergency notification installations, integrated electronic access controls and an increased security presence to help ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, physicians and associates.

Construction began in June 2026 and is expected to be completed over the next 24 months. Renovations will be carefully phased to maintain capacity and ensure uninterrupted access to patient care throughout the project.
