During Monday's Legislative Session, the Spokane City Council voted unanimously on a resolution to implement a public spaces program. The program promotes the use of public spaces by streamlining the city's permitting and licensing processes and making it easier and more affordable. Activating the public right-of-way will enhance engagement during festivals, parades, and athletic events, allowing more sidewalk cafes, street eateries, and parklets.
"We are not only enhancing our public spaces but also fostering a vibrant community where residents and visitors can come together to celebrate, connect, and enjoy all that Spokane has to offer," said Council President Betsy Wilkerson.
After this resolution passes, the Community and Economic Development Division and the Office of the Mayor will be responsible for implementing the public rule.
"I'm grateful to Mayor Brown and her administration for making it easier to make our public spaces more vibrant," said Council Member Zack Zappone. "This not only improves our city's culture but also enhances our local economy."
