Metro Nashville Public Safety Agencies and Simon Malls to Conduct Joint Public Safety Exercise at Opry Mills

The Metro Nashville Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will conduct a joint public safety exercise at Opry Mills Mall on Sunday, January 11, 2026, beginning at 6:00 a.m. The exercise will simulate active shooter and critical incident scenarios to strengthen preparedness, coordination, and response capabilities between partner agencies.

Agencies participating in the exercise include:

  • Nashville Fire Department
  • Metro Nashville Office of Emergency Management
  • Metro Nashville Police Department
  • Tennessee Highway Patrol
  • Tennessee Department of Transportation
  • Simon Properties staff and contracted security personnel
  • Additional city, state, and federal partners as appropriate

This exercise will take place before mall operating hours and will not impact business operations. The public may see an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel in the area during this time.
This exercise is part of ongoing efforts to ensure operational readiness, enhance interagency communication, and maintain compliance with public safety and security standards.

Due to security requirements, media will not be permitted on site during the exercise. However, media partners are welcome to submit questions via email in advance or following the exercise. Information and post-exercise details will be shared as appropriate.

Access through secured checkpoints during the exercise will be limited to authorized participants only.
