Web Accessibility Rule Listening Session for Small Cities

Communities with populations below 50,000 have until April 26, 2028 to comply with the Department of Justice's web accessibility rule, which sets standards for local government websites, apps, and online content. That deadline was extended through successful advocacy efforts.

The National League of Cities and the Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy are hosting a listening session Thursday, May 14, from 2:00-3:00 pm to hear how small communities are preparing for compliance. Feedback will be used to support advocacy with DOJ for possible regulatory relief, guidance, and technical assistance. The session is open to communities under 50,000 in population. Topics include:

  • How prepared is your community to meet the deadline?
  • What parts of compliance are most challenging?
  • What questions or clarifications do you need from DOJ?
  • What costs - one-time or ongoing - has compliance created?
  • Is liability a concern, and what would help address it?
  • What resources would help your community most?

Register for the listening session.
