HARRISBURG - The Senate Transportation Committee today unanimously approved bipartisan legislation sponsored by Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-46), Senate Bill 1273, as well as approving a package of commercial driver's license (CDL) bills strengthening safety standards sponsored by Sen. Judy Ward (R-30).
Senate Bill 1273 clarifies that the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission may share time-sensitive information collected through its automated tolling system with law enforcement in specific situations. This includes cases involving Amber Alerts and Missing Endangered Person Advisory System alerts, where rapid access to vehicle data can be critical.
"Every second matters when a child is abducted, or a vulnerable person goes missing," Bartolotta said. "This legislation ensures law enforcement has access to the tools they need to act quickly and effectively. By removing any ambiguity in the law, we can better support efforts to bring loved ones home safely."
The committee also approved a package of bills introduced by Ward, chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, aimed at strengthening safety standards for CDL holders. The package-Senate Bills 1294, 1295, and 1296-focuses on ensuring English proficiency requirements are enforced and improving oversight of CDL training and testing processes.
Bartolotta expressed strong support for the measures, citing her participation in a public hearing last year during which she raised concerns about accountability and safety within the CDL system.
"These bills take meaningful steps toward closing gaps in the system and ensuring safer roadways for all Pennsylvanians," Bartolotta added.
The bills now move to the full Senate for consideration.
