Rep. Dr. Doreen Carter to Host Annual “Her Heart Matters” Event at State Capitol

ATLANTA - State Representative Dr. Doreen Carter (D-Lithonia) will host the annual "Her Heart Matters" event on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 1 - 2:30 p.m. at the South Wing Steps of the Georgia State Capitol.

"Women are often the caregivers for everyone else, but too many put their own health last," said Rep. Carter. "Her Heart Matters is about education, prevention and empowerment - because strong women are the foundation of strong families and strong communities."

Featured speakers include Dr. Foluso Fakeorede, chair of the Association of Black Cardiologist PAD Initiative and interventional cardiologist and national heart health advocate; Dr. Adrienne Atkinson-Sneed, podiatrist and health equity advocate; Dr. Julianne Adams Birt, president of Georgia State Medical Association; Dr. Shannon Walker, cardiologist at Emory Hospital; and Laura Bracci, government relations director for the American Heart Association.

The event intends to focus on education, prevention and empowerment for women of all ages, with the goal of bringing attention to health disparities and improving outcomes in under-served communities.

There will be a luncheon for this event from 12 - 1 p.m. in room 216 of the State Capitol.

This event is free and open to the public. Rep. Carter encourages attendees to register in advance. To register, please email [email protected].

Attendees are encouraged to wear red in support of women's heart health.
