Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City's Diagnostic Medical Imaging department has recently enhanced its training capabilities with the addition of advanced imaging equipment, further strengthening its commitment to workforce readiness in the health care sector.

The equipment, now integrated into the radiologic technology lab, allows students to gain hands-on experience with digital radiography systems and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS). These tools are widely used in hospitals and clinics, giving students exposure to the same technology they'll encounter in professional settings.

The Radiologic Technology program, which leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree, continues to maintain strong outcomes in certification and job placement. Students complete a rigorous curriculum that includes both classroom instruction and clinical rotations at local health care facilities.

In addition to radiologic technology, OSU-OKC offers a cardiovascular sonography program that has earned national recognition. The program was ranked among the top 20 associate-level sonography programs in the country by CollegeChoice America. Students in this track learn to operate high-resolution ultrasound systems used to assess heart and vascular conditions.

"I'm proud to share that the additional imaging equipment in our Radiologic Technology lab represents a meaningful advancement in how we prepare students for today's health care environment," said Karen Bubb, department head of Diagnostic Imaging at OSU-OKC.

"By training on industry-relevant digital radiography systems used in hospitals and clinics, our students develop the hands-on skills and practical knowledge needed to succeed from day one in the field."

Both programs are part of OSU-OKC's School of Health Sciences and align with the university's workforce development initiative, which emphasizes career-focused education and partnerships with industry. The initiative supports students in gaining practical skills that translate directly to employment in high-demand fields.

"This enhancement reflects our continued commitment to workforce readiness and supports OSU-OKC, which focuses on delivering high-quality, career-focused education," Bubb said. "Whether our students choose radiologic technology or cardiovascular sonography, they graduate with the technical expertise and clinical experience essential for success in the rapidly evolving field of diagnostic medical imaging."

With the Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting a 10% growth in employment for diagnostic medical sonographers and cardiovascular technologists through 2031, OSU-OKC is well-positioned to meet the state's growing health care needs.
