Gainesville Fleet earns national honor for operational excellence

The City of Gainesville's Fleet Management division, within the Transportation Department, has earned national recognition for operational excellence, receiving one of the industry's most competitive honors: placement among the 2026 "100 Best Fleets in the Americas" by NAFA Fleet Management Association.

NAFA recognizes top-performing public fleet operations across North America, evaluating agencies on metrics including leadership, efficiency, sustainability, innovation and service to internal customers. The NAFA 100 Best Fleets program, now in its 20th year, highlights organizations that demonstrate high standards in accountability and continuous improvement.

"This award reflects the strength of a team that concentrates on service, accountability and continuous improvement," said City of Gainesville Interim Chief Operating Officer Brian Singleton. "Fleet Management plays a critical role in keeping city services running every day, and this recognition underscores the discipline and expertise behind that work."

The honor comes as Gainesville's Fleet Management division continues to advance major operational initiatives. In the first half of fiscal year 2026, the division streamlined operations across fueling sites, implemented a new citywide fuel system to improve data collection, and completed a county hazmat inspection. The team also replaced 23 emergency vehicles, 24 light-duty vehicles, three heavy-duty vehicles and eight trailers, while continuing to fill current-year vehicle orders.

"This recognition affirms the direction in which we've been moving as a division," said Assistant Director of Transportation Jason Garrett. "Our team is committed to making data-driven decisions that improve reliability, extend the life of city assets and position Gainesville for the future."

The division's recent progress builds on a strong fiscal year 2025, which included large-scale vehicle replacement along with a successful $14.6 million grant application written in cooperation with Alachua County and Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU). The award would support installation of 47 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at 17 proposed sites across the community, with the funding currently on hold due to federal action.

Together, the new national award and City Fleet Management's initiatives highlight Gainesville's commitment to maintaining a modern, efficient and forward-looking fleet that supports essential services across the community.
