FirstHealth Hospitals Earn “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group

PINEHURST, N.C. - Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst and Moore Regional Hospital-Hoke in Raeford have earned an "A" Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an "A", "B", "C", "D" or "F" grade to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

Moore Regional Hospital Earns "Straight A" Status

Moore Regional achieved elite national status as a "Straight A" hospital, having sustained an A grade for the last five or more grading rounds. This is an accomplishment that just 15% of hospitals in this grading cycle have attained.

"These accomplishments speak to the strength of our teams and a systemwide commitment to making safety foundational in everything we do," said Jonathan Davis, MPH, FACHE, FirstHealth chief operating officer and president of Moore Regional Hospital.

"Throughout FirstHealth, safety is not just a priority, it is a core value and central to our core purpose of caring for people. Every process, every conversation, every decision is guided by our dedication to providing safe, high-quality care for our patients and the communities we serve."

A Shared Culture of Safety Across FirstHealth

Matthew Prestwood, MHA, FACHE, president of Moore Regional Hospital-Hoke and the Eastern region, emphasized that safety is a commitment shared across the FirstHealth system.

"Earning an A grade for patient safety is a direct reflection of our team's unwavering commitment to doing what's right for all patients and families who enter our facilities," he said. "Safety is a shared responsibility embedded in our culture at MRH-Hoke and supported across the entire system. I am grateful to our staff, providers, physicians and volunteers who make this level of care possible."

National Recognition from The Leapfrog Group

"An 'A' Grade is a strong sign that FirstHealth is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction."

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
