PR No. 173 NEOC of NDMA Issues Medium-Level Flash Flood Warning for Northern Areas

National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of NDMA has issued a medium-level flash flood warning for northern areas of Pakistan in view of prevailing and expected weather conditions. The warning indicates potential risks in the western parts of the country, particularly in the upper catchments of River Kabul and its tributaries, including Panjkora, Swat, and Kalpani streams, where heavy snowfall in upper regions combined with rainfall may result in sudden increases in water flows in associated nullahs and tributaries.

Flash flooding is likely in areas of Dir, Chitral, Swat, and Kohistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with their associated streams and drainage channels, while low to medium flows are anticipated in River Kabul at Nowshera and downstream of Tarbela Dam. Provincial and District Disaster Management Authorities have been advised to remain on high alert, closely monitor vulnerable locations, and strictly follow extreme weather advisories issued by local administrations.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel near nullahs, low-lying areas, and vulnerable slopes, while emergency services have been directed to ensure readiness for timely rescue and evacuation operations, if required. NDMA, through NEOC, is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with provincial and district authorities to ensure preparedness and prompt response to any flood-related incidents. The public is encouraged to stay informed through official channels and by downloading Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application for real-time updates.
