Aspirus Wausau Hospital Recognized as a U.S. News Best Regional Hospital
Aspirus Wausau Hospital (AWH) was one of just 10 Wisconsin hospitals recognized as a Best Regional Hospital in the 2026-2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings and received 13 High Performing ratings for procedures and conditions, reflecting strong performance across a broad range of patient care services.
The annual rankings are designed to help patients evaluate hospitals for a range of care needs, from common procedures to treatment for serious or complex illnesses. This year marked the 37th edition of the rankings, which place increased emphasis on risk-adjusted patient outcomes.
"This recognition reflects the dedication and expertise of our physicians, nurses, clinicians and support staff who care for patients every day," said Jeff Wicklander, Aspirus Senior Vice President and President of Aspirus Wausau Hospital. AWH earned High Performing ratings in 13 procedures and conditions, including abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), heart bypass surgery, hip replacement, pacemaker implantation, colon cancer surgery, lung cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery, leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma care, heart attack care, pneumonia care and heart arrhythmia care.
According to U.S. News, a High Performing rating is the highest designation awarded for procedures and conditions and is typically earned by only 15 to 30 percent of hospitals evaluated in a particular area of care. Best Regional Hospitals are recognized for demonstrating overall excellence across the most common types of hospital-based care, with only about 500 hospitals nationwide earning the designation.
