Wildfire safety starts with YOU! As wildfire risk is a year-round concern, taking proactive steps at home is one of the most effective ways to protect your property and your community. What can you do to keep your home and community safe?
1) Create defensible space: Clear dry brush, leaves, flammable materials, and weeds from around your home. Taking a moment to create this space facilitates a critical buffer that can slow or stop the spread of fire.
2) Have an evacuation plan: Know where you and your family will go, how you'll get there, and identify at least two routes in case one becomes blocked/closed.
3) Prepare a "go bag": Prep this bag with medications, important documents, phone chargers, water, snacks, pet supplies and food, and basic toiletries. Keep this bag packed and ready to go, and make sure your vehicle is kept fueled/charged.
It may seem convenient to wait for the next weekend or wait for an evacuation notice before you put these into practice, but if you act now, your future self will thank you.
