The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) was proud to participate in the Marine Industries Association of Florida's (MIAF) Fall Conference, held September 10-11. The two-day program brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and regional associations to address pressing issues impacting Florida's marine economy and recreational boating community.
The agenda featured presentations from state and local legislators, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and leading marine advocates. Key topics included anchoring and derelict vessel management, waterway safety, recreational fishing updates, and the ongoing challenges around water access, permitting, and the loss of working waterfronts.
NMMA Director of State Government Relations Ben Murray served as the keynote dinner speaker, highlighting the industry's priorities and NMMA's ongoing advocacy efforts nationwide.
"Thank you to MIAF for inviting me as this year's keynote speaker," said Murray. "It was an honor to be with Florida's marine community-listening, learning, and talking candidly about how we can safeguard working waterfronts, expand public access, and support the businesses and jobs that make Florida the nation's boating capital. I'm grateful to the MIAF team, volunteers, and members for the energy and collaboration they bring to this work."
Florida Representative Kim Berfield added, "This year's MIAF conference provided a great opportunity for interaction between the memberships and the legislators attending. This will enable both of us to be even more effective representatives of not just our constituents, but an industry that produces a multigenerational impact."
