UNI School of Music to host 45th Annual Scholarship Benefit Concert
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - "Something Old, Something New" will be the theme of the 45th Annual Scholarship Benefit Concert, hosted by the UNI School of Music. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 in the Catherine Cassidy Gallagher Great Hall at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC) on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
The evening will be filled with exceptional performances by UNI faculty and students, featuring a wide range of works, composers and performers aimed at highlighting the unique history and story of the School of Music, while continuing to build on that legacy into the future. The concert will include performances by the UNI Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band One, Concert Chorale, Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra, as well as new faculty artist Jaime Webb, soprano, and returning alum Susan Rider (UNI '89), trumpet. Repertoire will include selections by Bach, Mozart, alum Paul McKee (UNI '80) and a sneak preview of a new work by emeritus faculty artist and composer Rebecca Burkhardt, commissioned to celebrate UNI's 150th year.
Following the concert, audience members are invited to enjoy chocolates, hors d'oeuvres and beverages in the Gallagher Bluedon lobby and the newly expanded Marquee Lounge, with music provided by School of Music student musicians.
The Scholarship Benefit Concerts have been raising scholarship funds for exceptionally talented music students and students in need for many years. All seats for the benefit concert are reserved.
