The investigation into the recordings was carried out by an accredited foreign forensic laboratory. The report was commissioned on 18 March and received by the Police on 18 May.
As State Secretary Volk explained, the very next day, on 19 May, an operational meeting was held at the Prosecutor's Office between the Police and the prosecution service, which is directing the pre-trial procedure. It was decided at the meeting that the investigation would continue intensively. Furthermore, the Secretariat of the National Security Council called for the investigation to proceed as quickly as possible, without interference, independently and professionally.
State Secretary Volk also stressed that, based on the information known so far and today's discussion at the session of the National Security Council's Secretariat, the case shows similarities to cases abroad involving manipulation of publicly released recordings with the aim of influencing voters. According to him, the discussion also pointed to well-founded suspicions of serious criminal offences.
As the pre-trial procedure is still ongoing, the competent authorities cannot disclose additional details at this stage.
