Hello,
It's been a busy couple weeks for me in our district! One of my favorite parts of being your congressman is getting to meet with people up and down the North Coast to hear about what matters to you. And I'm hearing the same thing from community after community: the cost of living is way too high. Over the past few weeks, I've been traveling throughout the District, listening to your concerns, and learning how I can best serve you as your voice in Congress.
Astronomical housing costs are a major problem - but here in Northern CA, we have some promising solutions.
It is wonderful to see my legislation to transfer ownership of former Coast Guard housing to Marin County coming to fruition. This renovated affordable housing for West Marin residents is in high demand. I got to tour the sites last week and witness firsthand how this important project is taking shape.
I also helped secure $2 million in community project funding for a West Marin housing initiative that will provide our local community, including former residents of Point Reyes National Seashore, with safe, affordable places to live. On Farmworkers Day, I toured the new project in downtown Point Reyes Station and spoke with some of the people in our community who will benefit most from this investment.
Last week, I also made a stop at the San Anselmo/Fairfax Children's Center to tour their facilities and hear about all the big improvements on the way. My team and I secured $850,000 in federal funding to help them modernize this site and support kids in our community. Affordable, high-quality childcare and learning is in high demand. I was glad to meet with the childcare providers and hear how this investment will be put to good use.
I was also proud to be at the grand opening of Make It Home's new furniture warehouse, which helps provide for families in need. Far too many low-income families throughout our community are struggling to access basic necessities. I secured federal funding to complete this project, helping struggling families furnish their homes and addressing the growing demand for essential household items.
Things are always hectic in D.C., and I'm grateful I had some time back home to speak to so many of you and hear how our work in Washington can best serve our community.
One last thing... Congressional Art Competition submissions are due by Friday, April 17th! I'm excited to see this year's artwork from students across the North Coast. Submit your artwork here.
And don't forget, whether you need help working with a federal agency or information about legislation and policy, my staff and I are here to support you. If you need assistance, you can submit a Casework Authorization Form on my website.
To keep up with the work I am doing as your representative, please subscribe to my newsletter, and follow me on Bluesky, Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, and Threads.
Thank you, and stay well,
Jared Huffman
Member of Congress
