Crow earned a degree in health informatics and administration and commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Georgia Army National Guard Military Police branch.
"I always knew I wanted to help people," Crow said. "And I have great people in health care who I look up to."
Crow impressed those who experienced her tenacity at UNG. Dr. Heath Harllee, assistant professor of health informatics and administration, said he appreciated Crow's "above-and-beyond" pursuit of excellence.
"Even when she would get a perfect score, she still wanted feedback on how she could do better," Harllee said. "That's a driving force behind who Tara is."
Harllee also noticed the way Crow can quickly identify trends in data and start coming up with potential solutions while still analyzing the data. Even with that strong sense of direction, she remains open to whatever the best idea might be.
"She's able to see things from multiple points of view," Harllee said.
Amy Brown, administrative assistant for the health informatics and administration program, helped Crow make sure she had the right classes and answered any questions the student had.
"She really impressed me as a student who knew what she wanted and what she had to do to get there," Brown said.
Harllee noted Crow's ability to see adversity as a temporary setback as she pursues her goals. Even then, the lens is much wider for Crow.
"She doesn't just want success for herself. She wants it for everyone around her," Harllee said. "She's able to keep the big picture in mind. She makes people around her better."
Dr. Angela Morey, department head of health informatics and administration, expressed gratitude to GAHIMSS for honoring Crow.
"We are so proud of Tara's many accomplishments in the health informatics and administration program and truly appreciate the dedication of GAHIMSS in supporting students as they launch their healthcare careers," Morey said.
