Des Moines, Iowa- Tuesday, January 13, 2026 -As the City works to prepare its recommended budget for the City Council to consider in February, residents are encouraged to participate in two online prioritization exercises to share their budget priorities and feedback.
"These exercises are an opportunity for our residents to share how they would prioritize the services funded by our operating budget and the projects supported by our Capital Improvements Plan," City Manager Scott Sanders said. "I would encourage anyone who wants to be more involved in their local government to go through these surveys as we plan for the future of Des Moines. The data we receive from these surveys will provide an additional layer of perspective as our City considers its budgetary decisions."The City has held four budget information sessions during this budget cycle where residents had a chance to learn more about the City's budget process and participate in an interactive budgeting exercise and share their feedback on budget priorities.
The surveys are now live at DSM.city/Budget. The results will be published at the conclusion of the survey period on February 2nd.
The City Council will be presented with a recommended budget, followed by formal public hearings on the budget for Fiscal Year 2027 in February and March of 2026.
Residents can find more information on the City budget and submit questions for the Finance Department about the budget at DSM.city/Budget.
