Lumentum (LITE) stock rose 8.2% on Monday, October 26, 2026, while the S&P 500 gained 0.7%. The company issued no announcements, earnings reports or filings. News reports tied the gain to StoneX starting coverage of Lumentum with a Buy rating that day, adding that the rating was pulling other optical networking stocks higher too. What else was lifting those stocks, and what ties Lumentum's business to them?

What Lifted Lumentum And Other Optical Stocks?

The rating came with a $1,200 price target. According to one news report, optical stocks were staging a comeback after Anthropic's IPO filing. Another report said the offering had taken on outsized importance, with the AI trade sputtering of late and interest rates on the rise.

Lumentum is tied to that same AI trade. The company sells cloud transceivers and laser chips that connect computers inside data centers. On the company's August 11, 2026 call, management said data center architects are turning to optical links as AI workloads grow in speed and bandwidth. Revenue for the period covered by that call, fiscal Q4 2026, was $1.01 billion, up 109.3% from a year earlier.

Did Lumentum Rise On Its Own?

Not entirely. Technology stocks advanced, with the XLK sector fund up 1.7%, and four of the five companies on Lumentum's Trefis peer list also gained. The largest of those gains was Frequency Electronics' 4.8%, and Cisco Systems rose 3.5%. News reports said other optical networking stocks climbed as well, naming Coherent and Applied Optoelectronics among them. Lumentum moved with its group, but its gain was well above that of each of its five Trefis peers.

Lumentum Stock Often Moves This Much In A Day

Lumentum moved at least this much in 54 sessions over the year before, 30 of them rises. The latest move this large went the other way, an 11.5% fall on October 22, 2026.

Over the past year, the stock traded between a closing low of $188.36 on November 4, 2025 and a closing high of $1,133.40 on October 6, 2026. Even with Monday's gain, Lumentum closed well below that high. The stock fell 13.1% over the month to October 26, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.8%. Over twelve months, though, Lumentum returned 385.5%, against 15.3% for the S&P 500.

At Monday's close, you pay 23.2 times Lumentum's sales over the four quarters to June 2026, against 3.2 times for the S&P 500.

Lumentum is expected to report its fiscal first-quarter 2027 results in November 2026. The figure to watch is revenue, against management's forecast of $1.225 billion to $1.275 billion for that quarter.

How To Act On LITE?

Not necessarily on Lumentum alone, if your goal is long-term wealth. Wealth is built by owning the companies that keep outperforming, the leaders of their industries, wherever they are. Lumentum is one. Over the five years to October 2026, its stock rose 913%, ahead of all 34 other companies in Communications Equipment, where the typical company rose 86%.

Finding companies like these takes comparison across industries and sectors, and that is what the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio does. It holds 30 quality companies in equal weight and, since its inception in September 2020, has returned more than 105%, ahead of a benchmark that combines the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap and Russell 2000. See how we find the leaders.
