Media students support foster children with service-learning project

Students in the public relations senior capstone class (PR 451) partnered with the nonprofit organization Foster + Heart, which supports Idaho children in foster care. The students practiced essential media skills learned throughout their coursework in the Department of Media, in service of a good cost with Foster + Heart.

The public relations students researched, planned and are currently implementing a campaign to increase donations to the nonprofit's Essentials Project, which provides clothing, shoes and other comfort items for children and teens entering foster care. These items play an important role in helping young people feel safe, valued and cared for during a difficult transition.

Boise State faculty, staff and students can support the campaign by donating a gift card for clothing, make-up, food (any amount) or new essential items to the main office in the Communication Building. All donations will go directly to the nonprofit to be distributed to foster children as part of their "essentials" bag.

For one of their campaign objectives, the PR students partnered with Dee's Ice Cream Trolley in Hyde Park to organize a Spring Into Giving fundraiser on April 25 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. A portion of proceeds will support the purchase of essential items, and those who bring a donation will be entered to win dinner at Ling & Louie's Asian Bar and Grill and a night at The Riverside Hotel.
