On December 14, 2025, just before 9:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service's Auxiliary Force Cadet Unit were patrolling in the area of Ellice Avenue and Sherbrook Street in extreme weather conditions when they located a woman lying on the side of the street who was unconscious and without a pulse. The cadets immediately attended to the woman while summoning an ambulance and provided lifesaving emergency medical care including CPR. The 70-year-old woman was transported to hospital in critical condition, and later upgraded to stable.
The Winnipeg Police Service reminds citizens to take necessary precautions during periods of extremely cold temperatures by wearing warm layered clothing and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure. During periods of cold weather, city facilities can be used to warm up.
Citizens are encouraged to call 9-1-1 immediately if they see someone who needs help or is injured due to extreme weather. When calling, it is important to report the person's location and condition. Whenever possible, remain with the person until emergency personnel arrive.
