IMOA is pleased to announce the appointment of Ruth Danzeisen as our incoming HSE Executive. Ruth will join IMOA on 1st April 2026. She will work alongside Sandra Carey, our current HSE Executive, who will retire from her current role at the end of 2026.
Ruth is currently Corporate Toxicology Director at Albemarle Corporation. Prior to that, she worked at the Cobalt Institute as their Principal Toxicologist for over nine years. Ruth also worked as Assistant Director - Health, Environment, and Sustainable Development Program, at the International Copper Association between 2005 and 2012.
Eva Model, IMOA Secretary-General commented:
"The work undertaken by our HSE Committee and its longstanding team of expert consultants is critical to IMOA, our members and the wider industry. During Sandra's tenure, IMOA has steadfastly invested in generating robust science about the toxicology of molybdate with respect to human health and the environment, for regulatory compliance purposes. Sandra, her team, and the work she has led with the HSE Committee over the past 20 years is paying dividends in terms of forming the basis for appropriate regulation. Her determination, strategic approach and steadfast leadership have ensured that IMOA and our members are well-positioned to respond to upcoming regulatory requirements. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Sandra for all her work over the last 20 years. I look forward to continuing to work with her over the next year as she begins to hand the reins to Ruth before retiring from her current role at the end of next year."
"I am delighted that Ruth is joining our team. She brings a wealth of toxicological knowledge and expertise, as well as experience working in a number of metal associations and with metal consortia. I am confident that she will continue the important work of the HSE committee and Molybdenum Consortium, ensuring we anticipate regulatory requirements and utilize IMOA's substantial datasets to inform regulatory decision-making."
Ruth Danzeisen commented:
"It is very exciting to be given the opportunity to join the IMOA team. I am returning to my toxicological roots, the transition metals. My experience in the metals association work, combined with my practice in industry, is a solid foundation to take on and continue the great work Sandra and her team have done."
Sandra Carey commented:
"20 very enjoyable years working at IMOA have sped by working on HSE technical challenges relevant to the membership. Back in 2007, the EU REACH Regulation compelled industry to set out on an untravelled road to generate an extensive matrix of toxicology data about the effects of molybdate on human health and the environment. We made a plan, rolled up our sleeves and got on with the task. Happily, we have been successful in the delivery of that plan to date, and it is now paying dividends, with IMOA's robust data being used for international chemicals management compliance requirements and influential in informing regulatory decisions across the globe. Over that time, we have made great strides in our understanding of molybdate toxicology, but there is always more to do, e.g. endocrine disruption, neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity, because the regulators continually expand their data requirements.
My profound thanks go to our team of expert HSE consultants: Kevin, Lindsay, Dagobert, Philip, Sue, Annie, Len and Jay, all of whom have worked so very closely with me throughout my tenure at IMOA. Their support, expertise and dedication to the task have been critical to our success, as has the steadfast commitment of our HSE committee members over the years. The work is far from over, so I greatly look forward to welcoming Ruth and working with her next year to ensure her smooth onboarding as I hand over the baton into her experienced hands."
