Northwest offering esports camp for middle school, high school students in July

Northwest Missouri State University is again offering youth an opportunity to play video games with peers during an esports summer camp on the University campus.

Northwest will host the Esports Bearcats Day Camp for middle school and high school students from Monday, July 13, through Friday, July 17. Camp sessions are 8 a.m. to noon each day in the Esports Lab on the third floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union. The cost is $75 per person and includes a T-shirt.

During the camp, attending boys and girls will participate in fun, team-oriented gaming activities while learning skills related to leadership, communication, team development, problem-solving and best online practices.

Opened in 2020, Northwest boasts an Esports Lab in its J.W. Jones Student Union that is furnished with high-end computers and consoles, helping students engage and thrive in a competitive environment while building long-lasting connections.

Northwest competes in esports as an affiliate of NACE, which supports about 200 varsity esports programs at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
