New Montgomery County Permitting Services Podcast Episode Examines ‘Pros and Cons of Being Your Own General Contractor’

The latest episode of the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (DPS) podcast, "The Pros and Cons of Being Your Own General Contractor, " examines the risks and rewards of managing your own home renovation project.

DPS Customer Support and Outreach Division Chief Gail Lucas hosts the episode with Residential Inspections Manager David Burch to discuss what homeowners should know before starting a home improvement project.

The episode covers:

  • What to know before starting a project.
  • The importance of hiring licensed contractors.
  • The difference between contractors and subcontractors.
  • Who should apply for permits.

  • How DPS can help, including available resources.

The Permitting Services Podcast helps educate the community on permitting, safety standards, and development best practices. Episodes are available on the DPS website and YouTube, with airings on County Cable Montgomery at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and other major podcast platforms such as AppleMusic, Spotify, and Amazon Music.
