HRSA Awards Nearly $19 Million to Expand Access to Healthcare Through Telehealth and Innovative Technologies

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) today announced nearly $19 million in new awards to expand access to high-quality healthcare through telehealth and technology-enabled learning. Announced during Telehealth Awareness Week, the awards will increase access to nutrition services, expand the use of emerging technologies to improve healthcare delivery, and strengthen the healthcare workforce in rural communities and other areas with limited access to care.

"Telehealth and innovative technologies are changing what access to healthcare looks like for Americans," said HRSA Administrator Tom Engels. "No longer is telehealth the exception to the rule - it is an essential part of the healthcare system, and the Trump Administration is helping providers put these tools to work to expand access and improve health outcomes. For a patient in a rural community, that can mean getting specialized care without traveling hours from home. For a clinician, it can mean having expertise and new tools at their fingertips to better serve their patients. Through these investments, HRSA will help test what works and identify successful approaches that can be replicated in communities across the country."

The awards announced today include:

• Telehealth Centers of Excellence ($8.5 million) will pilot and test innovative telehealth solutions to expand access and improve health outcomes.
• Telehealth Nutrition Services Network Grant Program ($5.4 million) will increase access to nutrition services that help prevent and manage chronic diseases through telehealth networks.
• Technology-enabled Collaborative Learning Program ($4.75 million) will improve provider retention and expand access to care in rural communities using technology-enabled learning models.

These awards build on HRSA's leadership in telehealth by advancing innovative, high-value programs that expand access to high-quality care. HRSA's broader telehealth portfolio includes more than 3,600 awards associated with telehealth.
