Welcome back

Welcome back

Public Safety Tuesday August 18, 2026

It's a great day to be a Bobcat!

As we welcome our students back to Georgia College & State University and get ready for another great academic year, the GCSU Department of Public Safety wants everyone to have a safe, successful and enjoyable first week of classes.

A few important reminders as you navigate campus:

Walk Smart: Stay alert when walking across campus. Use sidewalks and designated pedestrian areas, keep your eyes up and avoid distractions when crossing roadways.

Use Crosswalks Correctly: Please use designated crosswalks and give yourself plenty of time to cross. Drivers - stop for pedestrians in crosswalks and remain alert, especially in high-traffic areas.

Drive Carefully: Expect increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the first few weeks of the semester. Slow down, be patient and watch carefully for students who may be unfamiliar with campus.

Stay Hydrated: The heat and humidity are extreme right now. Carry water, drink regularly and don't wait until you feel thirsty to hydrate.

Take the Heat Seriously: Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat-related illness. Take breaks, seek air conditioning when needed and look out for your friends and classmates.

Lock Your Doors: Whether you're leaving your residence hall room for five minutes or for the entire day, lock your door. Don't prop exterior doors open and never allow unauthorized individuals to follow you into secured buildings.

Take Care of Yourself - and Each Other: Look out for your friends, classmates, roommates and fellow Bobcats. If something doesn't look or feel right, trust your instincts and report it.

Know That We Are Here for You: GCSU DPS is here 24/7 to help keep our campus safe. We want you to see us not only as police officers, but as members of the GCSU community who are here to help.

Let's start this academic year the right way - safe, smart and together.

Welcome back, Bobcats!

Have a great - and safe - first week of classes!
