City Projects

14th Avenue, 8th Street to 9th Street

Starting September 28, crews will remove existing sidewalk and install new sidewalk and ADA ramps along 14th Avenue between 8th Street and 9th Street. Additional curb and ramp work will take place near Elks Lane. Shoulder work and traffic control will be in place in the area. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs and use caution. Work is expected to be completed by mid-October.

Avenue A and 16th Street

Starting September 21, crews will begin work to install two bus pull-outs on Avenue A, north and south of 16th Street. The project also includes new sidewalk, curb and gutter, water valve relocation, and signage.

Work will require closure of the right southbound lane on Avenue A south of 16th Street and the right northbound lane north of 16th Street. During the first week, lane closures will be in place from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and removed each evening. After the first week, the lanes will remain closed during the widening work. The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph in the work area. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs. Work is expected to be completed by mid-November.

Gila Street, 3rd Street
Crews will be site fencing Gila Street and 3rd Street for the Hotel Del Sol Project. 3rd Street will be closed from Gila Street to Maiden Street, and Gila Street will be closed from Giss Parkway to 3rd Street. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs and use caution in the area. The road closures will be in place for 12 months.

City Street Maintenance

City Street Maintenance operations for the week of September 28 - September October 2 will take place in the following areas.

Chip Seal Operations - Week 1:
Notices to businesses and residents will be distributed by contractor V.S.S.I. Residents are asked to be mindful of watering days.

All streets listed below will be fully closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drivers are advised to follow posted detour signs for alternate routes.

Thursday, October 1
Avenue 3E, County 16th Street to County 18 1/2 Street.

Friday, October 2
Avenue 6E, 32nd Street to 34th Street (VA Clinic).
40th Street, Avenue 6E to Avenue 5E.

Saturday, October 3
Avenue 6E, 34th Street (VA Clinic) to 42nd Place.

Street Asphalt Patching:

45th Avenue, 16th Street to 20th Street.

Concrete Sidewalk Repair:

2400 Block of Avenue 3E.

Avenue B, 12th Street to 14th Street.

2300 Block of Virginia Drive.

Alley Maintenance:

Magnolia Avenue to Avenue A, from Colorado Street to 1st Street.

West Main Canal Bike Path Project:

The West Main Canal Bike Path will be closed for maintenance from Avenue A to Magnolia Avenue. Detours will be in place.

Other utility projects and encroachment permits

15th Avenue, 5th Street to 8th Street (Piramide Contractors)

Starting September 24, crews will work on a sewer line connection and sidewalk work on 15th Avenue. Work will require closure of 15th Avenue between 5th Street and 8th Street, with access maintained for residents in the area. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs and detours. Work is expected to be completed by late September.

Avenue B and 16th Street (Lumen)

Starting September 28, crews will perform utility work at Avenue B and 16th Street. Work will require closure of the southbound right lane on Avenue B and the westbound right lane on 16th Street. A portion of the work will take place overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs in the area. Work is expected to be completed by early October.

3rd Avenue, 19th Street to 20th Street (Accurate Excavation of Arizona)

Starting September 14, crews will complete water and sewer connections and install a manhole along 3rd Avenue near 20th Street. 3rd Avenue will be closed between 19th Street and 20th Street during the work. Access to businesses and residents will be maintained. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs and detours in the area. Work is expected to be completed by October.

Avenue A, Parkview Loop to Palmcroft Drive (Yuma County)

Starting July 27, Yuma County crews will install stormwater lines for the Smucker Park Detention Basin project. Avenue A will have lane restrictions between Parkview Loop and Palmcroft Drive. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs and use caution in the area. Work is expected to be completed by October.

8th Street and Avenue B, Clifford Way to 5th Street (Southwest Gas)

Starting August 3, Southwest Gas contractors will replace a natural gas pipeline along 8th Street and Avenue B between Clifford Way and 5th Street. Traffic restrictions and possible road closures will be in place during the work. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs in the area. Work is expected to continue through December.

West Main Canal Bike Path, Avenue A to Magnolia Avenue (Yuma County Water Users Association)

Starting July 7, Yuma County Water Users Association will begin construction work along the West Main Canal at Avenue A. During the project, the West Main Canal Bike Path will be closed from Avenue A to Magnolia Avenue, and detours will be in place. Path users are advised to use caution and follow posted detour signs in the area. Work is expected to be completed by December.

Routine Maintenance, Tree Trimming, and Survey Work (APS)

APS crews will be conducting routine maintenance, tree trimming, and survey work throughout the year in various locations within the City. Motorists are advised to watch for work zones in unexpected areas and follow all posted traffic control.

Fiber optic installations (Allo)

Communications line installations are taking place in areas designated for utility easements in numerous and various locations within the City limits and surrounding vicinity. Motorists are advised to watch for work zones in unexpected areas.
