Drew: I understand that some of your cravings -

Hilary: Are on your table.

Drew: Yeah we got your cravings in just in case.

Hilary: Thank you so much, Rice Krispie treats, but it was also Cheetos, but I don't eat cheese, so I had to find a vegan alternative, and you found it.

Drew:…Well, I'm gonna show you some of like what I would eat, during my pregnancy…I don't know why because I love tamales, but it's like I had to have them all the time.

Hilary: It's so interesting being pregnant and having those cravings like you need it. It's not just like I want it, you need it.

Drew: And mint chip ice cream, in fact. I even brought you a picture of myself pregnant because I wanted you to see, that was where it started. And that would, yeah, that's typical me housing, food, and then I got there. Yeah, the second you walked out here and I'm just looking at how stunningly beautiful, glowing, gorgeous, head to toe. I literally, I immediately flashed to this image I remember so well of you from 'Million Dollar Baby' and it was, I think right afterwards, but it's, you're running in the sand in the ocean thank you and I mean what you have been able to do with this body.

Hilary: Well, you know, it's amazing what women's bodies can do and you know I just feel so it's just such a an extraordinary privilege and honor and blessing to carry life like, you know, it's a dream come true and I love being a mom.

Drew: You've been in so many things. You're such a legend. What was something that just scared you to no end?

Holland: I think, my show Anne was like a leap of faith that I just couldn't believe I was doing it and it was stepping out off a cliff into what turned out to be a treasure.

Holland on "Bosom Buddies" & Predicting Tom Hanks Would be a Star

Drew: Does anyone remember the show 'Bosom Buddies?' It's my favorite show ever. I can't believe you were on it.

Holland: I was on it and I called my mother up within a few days and I said 'There's a guy on the show who's gonna be a superstar. He's the most, he has the greatest natural histrionic talent of anyone I've ever seen.' That was Tom Hanks, and I was right. She was so in love with him.

Drew: Your crystal ball was correct.

Holland: He wrote and she wanted a picture from him and I got a picture from him and he signed it, 'I love you madly' and gave it to my mother and she was like.

Drew: Because he's like the biggest movie star and a mensch all at the same time. What was 'Bosom Buddies' like, because also, I mean, all joking aside of like how much I was obsessed with that show growing up, it was very progressive. Men dressing up in drag as women, not since 'Some Like It Hot.' There was nothing like that on film or television. It's a very rare thing.

Holland: It was incredible. They didn't know what they had because they didn't run it for very long and the curious thing is that it's still running on Comedy Central, you know, various channels. 30, 40 years later, it's still running.

Holland on Being Sick During "Legally Blonde" Classroom Scene

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/dUdOOiKIumyw

Drew: When you were doing 'Legally Blonde' what happened in the classroom scene, may I ask? What was happening in your life?

Holland: Oh, oh, well, I was pretty sick. I had a sinus infection. I had a little fever. I felt like death itself, and I was so upset. I said, this is seen as one of the greatest scenes I've ever had to play in a movie. It opens this whole chapter, and I can't, I can't bear that. I have a, lo and behold, I see the movie. The following year and I go that was great what you know what the hell? But here's the point you have to know it doesn't limit you. It doesn't actually affect what comes out. You do the work, you show up, your work will be fine, so you should have faith in it and plunge ahead. That's my word for the day.

Holland on First Impression of Partner Sarah Paulson and How Serious She is About Her Friendships

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/DR0EKEK4fXDg

Sarah: Hello, darling, it's me. So I have a question for you, and I need you to be honest with the people and with Drew. What was your first impression of me? I'm scared. I feel scared. But what was it?

Holland: I ran into Sarah a couple of times, sort of the way one does in in Hollywood. And she seemed like the most youthful Hollywood dazzling dazzler that you could possibly imagine, very different from what she in fact really is, which I found out like 10 years later.

Drew: Is it true also that you guys don't live together?

Holland: Well, we do as much time as we possibly can because work takes us apart constantly, but I have an apartment here and she stays here at my apartment here when she's here and we stay together here when we're both here and in LA I have a separate house from hers, but her new house she hasn't moved into yet, and it's been almost, you know, almost a year since she's been staying with my house in New York in LA too, so we're together as much as geography and our jobs let us.

Drew: How long have you been together, may I ask?

Holland: Well, I think it's 12 years going on. She's really a fascinating person in many unexpected ways. She's very serious about some things and she is the most artful friend of anyone I've ever known, she has friendships, you know, friendships really not always, but they do require a certain amount of investment, absolutely, a lot of work, attention, and sometimes work, always happy work. She gives it all. She has quite a number of seriously important devoted friends, and they put in the work to their friendships, the time that she spends on people that she really loves, doing things for them, being with them, being really with them.

Showing up for all kinds of, I mean, it's a she's an amazing friend.

Holland on Playing Matthew McConaughey's Mom on "Brothers"

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/DDC4hRPgFBdI

Drew: We are also here to discuss a show that you are a part of that I absolutely love, and Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson were here to talk about their new show called 'Brothers' everybody. I told them that I felt like you guys were creating a new genre with this, which is it's like part fiction, part documentary, part real life, part artistic license. It's a very unique approach to a show because they are best friends in real life. You play Ma Mac.

Holland: I play Matthew's mother.

Drew: I mean, there's a woman that represents his mother, his wife, Woody's wife and children. It's like a strange tilt of the universe on the real people because you all look like the real people, but you're not.

Holland: It's very meta. I mean like those boys are not really playing themselves fully because if they were, it would be a show about movie stars who live a very different life from the kind of, you know, down home in Texas guys that are playing on their show, so Woody is very much like himself and Matthew is very much like himself, but the, and Matthew's actual mother, Ma Mac wanted to play herself. Now she's about 95 and a pistol, and Matthew felt that that was maybe a bridge too far. So I was asked to play her, and he said, 'You wanna meet her or talk to her?' I said, 'No.'

Drew: You're so good in it too.

Holland: I said, you know, I have an idea of what kind of dame she is. She's a real pistol, and she's, you know, she got the bleach blonde hair with the roots showing for three months and you know, skin that's tanned as leather and lots of jewelry and animal print clothes, and she'll, and she's at the age where she doesn't care. She'll say anything, do anything she doesn't care who minds it, you know, just free as a bird and also has a lot of objections to things.
