SACRAMENTO - Speaker of the Assembly Robert Rivas issues the following statement in response to a federal government proposal to build an ICE detention center in the Santa Clara County city of Gilroy:

From Los Angeles to Minnesota, Speaker Rivas repeatedly has condemned Trump's chaotic, deadly ICE raids.

Speaker Rivas has convened several immigration-focused community meetings and discussions across California, including twice in the Central Coast.

And Assembly Democrats continue to take action to hold Trump accountable for illegal and failed immigration policies: passing laws last year that protect our schools and hospitals, and working with colleagues this year to deliver solutions that rein-in unlawful, indiscriminate ICE and immigration enforcement that is targeting California workers, parents and businesses.
