GVSU Community celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month at third annual celebration

Yami Osorio, co-president of the Latino Student Union and one of the evening's emcees, said that these celebrations are not just for those who identify with the culture, but also an opportunity for those who don't to learn about a culture that is new to them.

"I hope all students become more educated about Hispanic culture," Osorio said. "For my Hispanic Lakers, I hope they gain more pride after attending the event."

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually starting on September 15 as the date marks the anniversary of independence for the countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
