Mayor Kraham: North Side Meeting

Mayor Kraham Invites Community to Participate in Visioning Session on Future of Binghamton

Public Meeting on Major North Side Redevelopment Effort Set for Tuesday

(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)-Mayor Jared M. Kraham is inviting residents to take part in a community visioning session on the future of the Binghamton Plaza site as the City seeks to gather further public input on the major North Side redevelopment project.

Mayor Kraham said: "Redeveloping the Binghamton Plaza is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for our City. After decades of calling for change at the property, residents now have a chance to help shape its future. I'm encouraging community members to make their voices heard as we work together to unlock the site's full potential."

The public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7 from 5:30-7:30pm at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School on the North Side.

Community members are invited to share ideas and priorities for the Binghamton Plaza site, located at 33 West State Street, weigh in on redevelopment concepts and provide input on how the property can best serve the North Side and the City as a whole.

The session will also provide residents with a chance to learn more about the property and its redevelopment, including environmental conditions and steps to prepare the site for future uses.

The City plans to demolish the blighted shopping plaza following a successful eminent domain proceeding that began in 2022.

Earlier this year, the City secured a $75,000 State grant to support further community engagement and redevelopment planning for the property.

Tuesday's meeting follows a virtual public engagement session held this spring that provided the community with information on the process for redevelopment of formerly contaminated sites like the Binghamton Plaza. The meeting was hosted by the City in partnership with the New York State Department of State, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and experts from NJIT's Technical Assistance to Brownfields team.
