Mayor Andrew Knack, Deputy Police Chief Nicole Chapdelaine and Fire Chief David Lazenby provided an update on recent fires that have occurred in communities across the city.
"On behalf of City Council, I extend my deep sympathy and compassion to those Edmontonians whose lives and homes have been impacted by these fires. I'm grateful there were no injuries," said Mayor Andrew Knack. "I want to thank the Edmonton Police Service and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services for their exceptional work in both dutifully responding to these fires and in the investigation of their cause. This is a tragedy caused by unconscionable violence. These developments were a place to call home for new residents excited to join a community. This is a devastating loss for them and frightening for the community. As these investigations continue, now is the time for us to come together as Edmontonians. Let's show our neighbours kindness and empathy during this difficult time."

"These fires are senseless and dangerous, posing an unacceptable risk not only to the structures they consume but, critically, to the safety of nearby residents and the lives of our responding firefighters," said Fire Chief David Lazenby. "I know these incidents have shaken our communities. I want to assure every Edmontonian that your concerns have been heard, and we are treating this with the utmost gravity. Our commitment is unwavering: we are working shoulder-to-shoulder with the Edmonton Police Service to find and stop those responsible. Your safety is our absolute priority."
