O’Connell Thanks Community for Outpouring of Support for Expectant Parents

Taunton, MA - Mayor Shaunna O'Connell and the Taunton Board of Health are extending their heartfelt thanks to the community for the tremendous support and participation in the Community Baby Shower, held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at The Center at Olney.

The event, which welcomed expecting and new parents from across Taunton, was created in direct response to findings from the 2024 Community Health Assessment, which identified maternal health as a significant local priority. With the support of Mayor O'Connell, the Board of Health organized the free, family-centered event to connect parents with resources, education, and community support.

Mayor O'Connell expressed her gratitude for the dedicated effort that made the event possible: "This event truly showcased what makes Taunton such a special community," said O'Connell. "When we come together to support one another-especially young and expecting families-we build a stronger, healthier future for everyone. Our Board of Health exceeded all expectations in organizing this event. I want to thank Cassidy O'Hara for leading this effort with the support of Public Health Nurse Michelle Borrello and Executive Director Danielle Gurgel. Their compassion and dedication made a real difference in the lives of our residents."

Guests had the opportunity to stock up on essentials such as baby clothes, blankets, diapers, wipes, toys and books. Guests also enjoyed refreshments, giveaways, and a variety of educational opportunities. Local organizations and agencies were on hand to provide information and services designed to help parents prepare for their growing families.

Board of Health Executive Director Danielle Gurgel praised the Mayor and her team for their ongoing support and commended the staff for their exceptional work. "We're so grateful to Mayor O'Connell for her continued commitment to community health," said Director Gurgel. "Cassidy O'Hara and Michelle Borrello did an incredible job organizing this event. Thanks to their hard work and the generosity of our local organizations and city residents, we were able to provide meaningful support and valuable resources to families who need them most."

The Community Baby Shower reflects the City of Taunton's ongoing commitment to addressing maternal health challenges through education, outreach, and community partnerships.###
