Ramp openings and closures scheduled at I-64 and Illinois 159 in St. Clair County

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS - The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced ramp openings as well as ramp and lane closures at the Interstate 64 and Illinois 159 interchange in St. Clair County for ramp maintenance work.

All currently closed westbound I-64 ramps at Illinois 159 are scheduled to reopen by Friday, June 5.

Starting at 1 a.m. Friday, June 5, the following ramps will close:

  • Southbound Illinois 159 to eastbound I-64
  • Northbound Illinois 159 to eastbound I-64
  • Eastbound I-64 to Illinois 159

In addition, southbound Illinois 159 will be reduced to one lane at I-64 beginning at 1 a.m. Friday, June 5. Two southbound lanes are expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Monday, June 8.

All eastbound I-64 ramps at the interchange are expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Sunday, June 14, weather permitting.

This work is part of an ongoing improvement project scheduled for completion in 2027. Additional temporary lane and ramp closures will be required throughout the project, and all traffic impacts will be announced in advance.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during this closure. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation.
