Cheeseman Road in St. Ignace temporarily closed starting April 29

ST. IGNACE, Mich. - Due to ongoing work on the southbound I-75 overpass at Cheeseman Road in the city of St. Ignace, Mackinac County, Cheeseman Road will be temporarily closed to traffic starting Wednesday, April 29. Traffic will be detoured to US-2. One lane will remain open in each direction on I-75.

Cheeseman Road is expected to be reopened to traffic with a temporary traffic signal by Saturday, May 2.

The closure is required for the safety of motorists during removal of the overhead bridge deck and beams.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing about $9 million to rebuild both I-75 overpasses over Cheeseman Road, including deck replacement, bearing replacement, substructure repairs, beam end repairs, steel cleaning and coating, and approach work. This is a two-year project, with work on northbound I-75 already completed in 2025 and southbound I-75 finishing this year.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 76 jobs.
