Category 2 Fire Ban Rescinded as of Friday, July 3, 2026

Effective immediately throughout the Northwest Fire Centre, which includes Coast Mountain Forest District, Skeena Stikine Forest District, and Nadina Forest District, the Category 2 fire ban has been lifted. The Category 3 ban remains in place until further notice. Current prohibitions also do not affect Category 1 (campfires) that are a half-metre high by half-metre wide or smaller.

A Category 2 open fire burn is a fire that burns:

  • Material in pile not exceeding 2 metres in hight and 3 metres in width.
  • Material that concurrently in 2 piles, each not exceeding 2 metres in width.
  • Subble or grass over an area that does not exceed 0.2 hectares (2,000 square metres_

A Category 3 open fire burn is a fire that burns:

  • Materials concurrently in 3 or more piles, each not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width.
  • Materials in one or more piles, each exceeding 2 metres in height or 3 metres in width.
  • One or more windrows, not exceeding 200 metres in length or 15 metres in width.
  • Stubble or grass over an area exceeding 0.2 hectares (2,000 square metres)

In addition, the following are also prohibited across the Northwest Fire Centre:

  • Air curtain burners
  • Carbonizers
