VICTORY FOR GUN SAFETY: Aaron Ford Elected Governor of Nevada

WASHINGTON - Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters elected Attorney General Aaron Ford as Governor of Nevada.

"After four years of watching Joe Lombardo veto hard-fought gun safety bills, Nevadans just handed the job to someone who will sign them," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "As Nevada Attorney General, Aaron Ford has stood up for safer communities at every turn, and Everytown is eager to keep working with him in the governor's office."

"Nevada volunteers have spent years at the legislature fighting for their families' safety, and they just helped elect a governor who shares that fight," said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. "Governor-elect Ford has been a partner to our movement for a long time. Our volunteers can't wait to get back to Carson City with him in their corner."

"Nevadans have known Aaron Ford as a fierce advocate for gun safety throughout his time as attorney general, and we're proud to have helped make him our next governor," said Aurora Cox, a volunteer with the Nevada chapter of Moms Demand Action. "This fall, our volunteers knocked doors across the state, knowing this race would decide what's possible for our communities. With Governor-elect Ford in office, we're ready to enact the lifesaving, common-sense laws Nevada families have been waiting for."

This cycle, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund, and the Democratic Governors Association, announced a $3 million effort to elect gun-sense governors in Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, and Wisconsin. Last cycle, Everytown helped elect former Moms Demand Action volunteer Abigail Spanberger as Governor of Virginia, and in her first legislative session, she signed a ban on the sale of assault weapons and 20 other gun safety bills into law.

Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund endorsed 503 gun safety champions running at every level of government, from statehouses to governor's offices. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made more than 15 million voter contacts to help elect them.
