Jonathan Corpus Ong, professor of communication and founding director of the Global Technology for Social Justice Lab (GloTech) at UMass Amherst, has been appointed co-editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Cultural Studies.

Ong will share editorial leadership with Laura Guimaraes Correa of the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil and Wen Jin of East China Normal University in China.

Ong says he and his team envision the journal as a "home for bold, critical and globally minded scholarship that deepens our collective understanding on current social issues as well as persistent public crises."

Founded in 1998, the journal is a leading publication for critical and qualitative research on media, technology, arts and culture. The journal's most recent special issue, "TikTok and Children," examines the impact of social media on young users. Ong encourages new submissions through the journal's website.

Ong previously served as co-editor-in-chief of Television & New Media, another international media studies journal, from 2020 to 2022. He is also a recipient of the Andrew Carnegie Fellowship.
