Angelenos Care: Give Warmth, Give Joy, Give Hope

LOS ANGELES - Mayor Karen Bass today announced that more than 1,000 toys and essential items were donated to support families impacted by immigration enforcement actions across Los Angeles. Launched earlier this season, the Holiday Donation Drive invited residents to drop off new toys, books, sports equipment, winter clothing, grocery gift cards, and household essentials at City facilities across the region. The overwhelming response demonstrated the compassion, unity, and generosity that defines Los Angeles. Photos available here.

"Angelenos showed up in a powerful way," said Mayor Karen Bass. "Together, we collected more than 1000 toys and countless essential items that will bring warmth, joy, and hope to families who need it most. This is what it looks like when a city comes together, neighbors supporting neighbors and ensuring every child feels seen, valued, and cared for during the holiday season."

"We are grateful to Mayor Karen Bass and the City of Los Angeles for thinking of the day laborers, household workers, and their families," said Meagan Ortiz, Executive Director of the Instituto de Educación Popular del Sur de California (IDEPSCA). "In a year marked by climate and national political disasters, bringing joy to those most impacted is an important reminder of our shared humanity."

Donations were collected at City Hall and City facilities across Los Angeles, with contributions coming from residents, City employees, and community partners. The items will be distributed through trusted immigrant rights organizations such as CHIRLA, SALEF, IDEPSCA, ImmDef, Proyecto Pastoral, CARECEN, the Clean Car Wash Center, and the YMCA to families affected by recent immigration enforcement. These donations aim to ease financial strain while bringing comfort, joy, and smiles to families and children who deserve to feel safe and supported, rather than live in fear due to the actions of the federal government.

"This effort was about more than gifts," Mayor Bassadded. "It was about reminding immigrant families that Los Angeles stands with them - not just during the holidays, but every day."

The Mayor's Office extends sincere gratitude to every Angeleno who participated by donating, volunteering, and sharing the drive with their community. The City looks forward to continuing its work with community partners to support immigrant families and ensure no one is left behind.
