Higher Education Labor Pennsylvania, a coalition of Pennsylvania higher-ed labor unions and higher-education advocates, have planned Nov. 7 events to call out threats to life-saving research and to the affordability of higher education in the Commonwealth. Events are slated at each of U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick's Pennsylvania offices - in Allentown, Erie, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Scranton, and State College.

"The cuts and threats that start at the national level are devastating for higher education - and the entire Commonwealth," said Dr. Kenneth M. Mash, president of the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties, which is part of Higher Education Labor Pennsylvania. "Faculty pass on important knowledge to their students, and their medical research saves lives. We're under attack politically and economically, and now we're speaking out about how this harms not only our students, who deserve the opportunity to learn, but citizens across the country."

Events will run 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in Allentown, Erie, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Scranton, and State College. The Philadelphia event runs noon to 1 p.m. the same day. For information, visit www.APSCUF.org/Nov7Rally.

Higher Education Labor Pennsylvania includes: AAUP , AFSCME , AFTPA , APSCUF , FSFCCP , GETUP-UAW , HELU , PAAAUP , PSEA , RAPUP-UAW , TAUP , USW District 10 , and WU-PAJB .
