Each year, the City of Boulder provides rebates to help community members with lower incomes pay for food. This year, rebates will be $108 for individuals and $332 for families. Applications open on April 15, 2026.

To be eligible, applicants must complete an application and meet financial eligibility guidelines, have resided in Boulder for the entire 2025 calendar year, and be:

  • age 62 or over for the entire 2025 calendar year; or
  • a person with a disability; or
  • a family with children under 18 years of age in the household for the entire 2025 calendar year.

Community members who do not have permanent shelter are eligible for the refund and can meet the residency requirement by providing documentation that they are receiving services from a city-recognized homelessness services agency.

Applicants are encouraged to visit bldr.fyi/food-tax to submit an application online. Paper applications are available for pick up at 1101 Arapahoe Ave. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. To request an application by mail, call 303-441-4261 or email [email protected].

Application forms must be received or be postmarked by June 30, 2026. Staff will begin providing customer service for interested community members and applicants on April 15.

Boulder has operated the Food Tax Rebate program since 1967 to help lessen the financial burden on lower income community members for city sales tax paid on food items. The program aims to expand financial support to help enhance economic stability in our community.

Applications and more information on the program can be found on the city's website.
