As russia continues massive, targeted strikes against Ukraine's energy infrastructure and winter conditions persist, the Ministry of Energy, together with international terminal operator KN Energies, brought together several Lithuanian companies and delivered critically needed equipment to Ukraine: generators and transformers.
The humanitarian aid collected from various Lithuanian cities reached Ukraine in mid-February. The equipment was unloaded at a distribution center for such assistance near Lviv, from where it was immediately dispatched to the areas most devastated by the war.
"Seeing how russia is brutally and systematically destroying Ukraine's energy infrastructure, we are taking action here and now. Together with our energy companies, we regularly review the equipment we have that can be allocated to the people of Ukraine. We have said more than once: the resilience of Ukraine's energy system today is not only a humanitarian issue, but also a matter of Europe's overall energy security. Therefore, Lithuania's support is consistent and long-term: by helping Ukraine keep its electricity and heat infrastructure functioning, we contribute to the continuity of critical services, people's safety, and the country's resilience to aggression. I hope that Lithuania's support not only helps people endure the prolonged cold and ensures that vital services operate under the most challenging conditions, but also encourages other countries to provide assistance to Ukraine promptly," said Lithuania's Minister of Energy, Žygimantas Vaičiūnas.
From its reserves, KN Energies allocated functional generators in good condition, while several other Lithuanian companies contributed by adding transformers and the equipment required for them.
"This winter, the situation in Ukraine is extremely difficult - daily bombardments of energy infrastructure continue, and not only residential buildings but also schools, hospitals, nursing facilities, and other vital organizations have found themselves in a critical situation. That is why we are contributing by providing alternative electricity supply and heat generation equipment. KN Energies has been supporting Ukraine consistently - we have provided various forms of assistance before and will continue to help in any way we can, for as long as it is needed. I thank the other Lithuanian companies that joined us - such partnership is a true demonstration of solidarity. I also thank the KN Energies team, which did major work collecting the support and ensuring it reached Ukraine swiftly," said Darius Šilenskis, CEO of KN Energies.
In addition to this shipment, KN Energies has so far provided other humanitarian aid to Ukraine -vehicles, various electronics, medical supplies - and also actively intermediates for other companies operating in Klaipėda that want to deliver necessary equipment and items to Ukraine.
