KC Water officials are hearing concerns about a series of letters recently sent by Service Line Warranties of America (SWLA). The department wants to assure the public that these letters are legitimate.
KC Water maintains repairs on all water mains up to the curb box on private property; from that point on, any repairs are the responsibility of the property owner. Most often, these repairs are unplanned events for homeowners and are sometimes not covered by standard homeowners' insurance.
The department partners with SWLA to offer customers an option to protect their water service line, since repairs can be costly out of pocket. To learn more about what services SWLA offers, visit their website.
While the insurance is not through KC Water, the department does receive a commission from each water policy sold. All money raised through the commission is used to pay off lingering debts from residents' delinquent water accounts. From there, any remaining funds are used to support utility assistance programs, such as the Mid-America Assistance Program.
More information about the partnership can be found on KC Water's website.
