Tukey's Bridge Section of Back Cove Trail to Close for Pipeline Maintenance

Unitil, a provider of natural gas and electricity in New England, will conduct gas pipeline maintenance on the Tukey's Bridge section of the Back Cove Trail from Monday, Oct. 6, through Friday, Oct. 17, 2025. Due to the complexity of the project and the narrowness of the path, it is not possible to allow pedestrian or bike traffic while the work is in progress.

During this period, the trail will be closed to the public. Residents and visitors are encouraged to seek alternate routes. Signage will be posted at trail entrances, and two large electronic message boards will be placed at the main Back Cove Trail parking areas to alert trail users of the closure.

Unitil and its contractors are working with city officials to ensure safety and minimize disruption.
