For immediate release:
Monday, July 27, 2026

MARTINEZ - Assemblymember Anamarie Ávila Farías (D-Martinez) released the following statement:

"My heart goes out to Yolanda Ramirez's family. Losing someone you love is heartbreaking, and I respect the strength it has taken for them to ask for answers, transparency, and accountability through the Coroner's Inquest process they requested.

"Everyone should feel safe when they call 911, especially in the middle of a family or domestic crisis. These situations can be complicated, and they call for a calm, compassionate, and welltrained response. Law enforcement officers need the training, resources, and tools to de-escalate conflicts, protect the individuals involved, and prioritize the preservation of life.

"As Assemblymember, I will continue working with my legislative colleagues to review and strengthen peace officer training standards, including best practices for responding to domestic disputes, crisis intervention, and interactions with vulnerable community members. This includes ensuring appropriate consideration for individuals with medical conditions, disabilities, agerelated vulnerabilities, and members of protected communities.

"Yolanda Ramirez was a beloved member of our community, an elderly Latina woman with preexisting health conditions who deserved care, dignity, and compassion. Her family and our community deserve a full understanding of what occurred and confidence that lessons are learned to help prevent future tragedies.

"My office will continue to monitor the progress of this matter and remain committed to supporting transparency and accountability. I encourage the City of Brentwood and all involved parties to work toward a thorough and transparent resolution, ensuring that any findings of responsibility are addressed appropriately so that Yolanda's family and our community can begin to heal."
