PPL Electric Utilities honors its lineworkers on National Lineworker Appreciation Day
Over 480 PPL Electric lineworkers who power Pennsylvania recognized for their skill, courage and sacrifice.
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (April 17, 2026) - Every time the lights come back on after a storm, someone made it happen. Every time power flows reliably through a Pennsylvania home, hospital or business on a brutal winter night, there is a lineworker who made sure it would.
On April 18, this National Lineworker Appreciation Day, PPL Electric Utilities is honoring the more than 480 PPL Electric lineworkers whose daily commitment, extraordinary skill and personal sacrifice keep electricity flowing to our 1.5 million customers across 29 counties in eastern and central Pennsylvania.
"Our lineworkers are at the heart of why PPL Electric can make good on its promise of safe, reliable service," said PPL Electric Utilities President Christine Martin. "They work on blue sky days and in the toughest conditions- in ice storms and heat waves, through the night and on holidays, on energized equipment that demands extraordinary skill and an unwavering commitment to safety. They do it because they are skilled, because they are committed and because they understand that the people counting on them have no other option. Today, we want every customer, every community and every family member of our lineworkers to know: We see what they do, and we are grateful."
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, linework is one of the most physically demanding and consistently dangerous professions in the United States. PPL Electric's lineworkers routinely perform work at various heights, in confined spaces, on energized distribution and transmission infrastructure, and in weather conditions that would ground most work. When a major storm knocks out power across PPL Electric's service territory, these are the people who leave their families - sometimes for days at a time - to restore service to customers who may include their own neighbors.
The sacrifice is not only personal. It extends to the families who hold everything together while a lineworker is on a restoration crew 100 miles from home. It is the spouse who manages a household through a storm while their partner is out working. It is the child who learns to be proud rather than disappointed when a parent misses a school event because someone else's family needed power restored.
PPL Electric invests heavily in safety culture, training and protective equipment - because sending every worker home safely is the company's most fundamental obligation. But no amount of preparation removes the inherent danger from work performed on live, high-voltage electrical infrastructure. Every lineworker understands the risk. Every one of them shows up anyway.
The work they perform is not abstract. Reliable electricity powers warm meals around the family table, heat on cold winter nights and cooling during the hottest summer days. It keeps the lights on in every emergency room, school and business in PPL Electric's service territory. The people who make that reliability possible deserve to be recognized - today, and every day.
PPL Electric also takes this opportunity to recognize its foresters, metering technicians and other field employees whose work supports the safe, reliable service our customers depend on every day.
PPL Electric Utilities encourages customers to join in honoring these dedicated professionals by visiting PPL Electric's social media channels and sharing a message of thanks using #ThankALineworker.
