Why liberal arts schools are now hopping on skills-based microcredentials

The market demand for higher education institutions to elevate workforce readiness through microcredentials has only risen, yet most institutions aren't addressing this need.

Allegheny College is rising to the occasion by launching 28 tailored microcredentials, spanning from artificial intelligence to content creation to cybersecurity. Microcredentials are integrated into the students' curricula and complement their liberal arts learning in bite-sized offerings that emphasize in-demand skills.

"Students are seeking academic variety and competencies that translate into career success," notes Jennifer Dearden, provost and dean of the faculty at Allegheny College, according to University Business.
