TÜV Rheinland Japan Accredited as First Certification Body in Japan for ISO/IEC 42001 AI Management Systems

TÜV Rheinland Japan receives accreditation to conduct ISO/IEC 42001 certification, supporting trusted governance of AI management systems in Japan.

TÜV Rheinland Japan has received official accreditation from the Information Management System Certification Center (ISMS-AC) to conduct certification for ISO/IEC 42001, the international standard for AI management systems.

The accreditation took effect on January 14, 2026.

This marks the first time a certification body in Japan has been accredited to provide certification under ISO/IEC 42001.

Published in 2023, ISO/IEC 42001 defines requirements for the governance and risk management of artificial intelligence systems. The standard addresses reliability, transparency, and safety across the development and operation of AI. It supports organizations in managing AI-related risks in a structured and accountable way.

With this accreditation, TÜV Rheinland Japan can now offer independent third-party certification services for ISO/IEC 42001 to organizations operating in Japan. This enables companies to demonstrate responsible AI governance and build trust with stakeholders in an increasingly AI-driven environment.

The TÜV Rheinland Group has a long track record in management system certification, spanning quality, information security, environmental management, and occupational safety. The addition of ISO/IEC 42001 strengthens the Group's support for organizations responding to emerging digital and ethical challenges.

TÜV Rheinland Japan remains committed to supporting the safe and responsible use of AI. By helping organizations manage risk and strengthen governance, the company contributes to social trust and sustainable progress in the adoption of artificial intelligence.
