The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, at the meeting held at the United Nations Headquarters
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, during his speech at the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, called for the current political momentum to be leveraged to achieve the goal of a State of Palestine living side by side in peace and security with Israel, and expressed his confidence that "decisive steps" would be taken to achieve this goal.
Albares, who said he was proud to have been at the forefront of this initiative from the beginning, pledged to remain at the forefront of the Global Alliance, and insisted that "the only way to a just and comprehensive peace is the implementation of the two-state solution".
The Spanish minister urged the international community to fulfil its moral and political responsibilities by understanding that "we are here to seize the opportunity to achieve the dream longed for by both Palestinians and Israelis: to live in peace, side by side, in security and in a stable region".
In this regard, he called for today's declarations to be translated into measures that create the conditions that guarantee a dignified life for Palestinians and safeguard the two-state solution, "the only credible and viable path to a lasting peace", he said.
Albares' intervention came after King Felipe VI addressed the UN General Assembly from the speakers' rostrum and after a bilateral meeting with the Ukrainian President, Volodimir Zelenski, at which he accompanied the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.
He also attended the EU-CELAC ministerial meeting, which is the last high-level political meeting to advance preparations for the next regional summit between the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, scheduled for 9 and 10 November in Santa Marta (Colombia).
Also noteworthy was the minister's participation in the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism, co-chaired by Spain and Iraq, where Albares expressed his condolences to all victims of terrorism after recalling Spain's commitment, which is demonstrated, among other things, through the United Nations office in Madrid.
In parallel to these events, the minister took advantage of his presence in New York to participate in the economic forum "Spain, Latin America and the United States in the Global Economy", organised by the United States-Spain Chamber of Commerce, where he highlighted the strengths of the Spanish economy and Spain's position as defined in the External Action Strategy.
